About Me

My interest in making art began at a very young age. I neither drew nor painted, but I revered older artists. In college, I majored in English literature, a great source for my imagination. I started taking art classes and never really stopped. I went to graduate school to obtain my masters in fine arts and to perfect my ability to think critically about my work. I was drawn to working with clay because the boundaries are so limitless; the
potters wheel demandes both skill and creativity and provides a base from which I can build. But throwing for me has never an end in itself and sometimes hand building with clay helps me come closer to my artistic vision. My goal is still to produce functional ware that moves from the predictable and mundane to an original version of the standard mug, bowl, vase.

Early in my career, I produced high fire functional ware. More recently Ihave found my enjoyment in producing low fire maiolica, a process of drawing/painting directly into an opaque white tin glaze. And of course the
use of color, adds a certain liveliness to my abstract interpretation of natural forms and gives me great joy.
