About Shana

Shana Brautigam has worked as a potter and teaching artist at Rooted in Clay studio since 2003. Her work focuses on creating hand-built, wood-fired pottery with leaf imprints and other natural textures. In addition to functional pottery, Shana makes hanging sculptures and musical instruments.

“Using only my hands, I can shape a handful of wet earth into a vessel, meant to be used in daily life. Harnessing the flames in my kiln, I can transform the clay into beautiful and durable functional pots. The timelessness and simplicity of this process is what first drew me to clay decades ago. I aspire to bring the beauty of nature into homes, and enrich lives by creating work that brings joy throughout one’s daily routines and rituals.”
